Our education presenters based at the station we looking for ideas to use when presenting to school children and youth groups.
We think we have come up with a unique idea and we will be the first to do this.
For any school or youth group that donates money to us, we will purchase a piece of equipment. The school or group can then track the usage of that peice of equipment through our specially set up blog page at http://loughswillyrnli.wordpress.com
This will show direclty to children that we present to, how exactly their donation is used.
We look forward to rolling this out and would ask everyone to support this.

Lough Swilly RNLI welcomed 19th Donegal Lifford (Clonleigh) Beaver Scouts and their leaders to the station on the 28th February.
The group was welcomed by Malcolm Houston- our Lifeboat Visits Officer and after a brief safety talk, the group was lead inside, where they were welcome by Liam Magee, the station Operations Manager and other memebers of the crew.
Following a DVD presentation the group play a few games centered around Beach Safety. The group then had a question and answer session with a couple of members of crew who geared up in ALB and ILB kit.
Then taken on the tour of the station, the children, aged between 6 & 8 got to grips with the stations new Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Minnie & Ernest George Barry. After a few pictures by a local newspaper photographer, the group travelled to the Tyne class lifeboat based at the pier in Buncrana. Again a quick safety brief followed by a tour of the Tyne class lifeboat.
The group left happy and tired. This is the first station visit of 2009 and we hope to continue this success with more visits throughout the year.

Our station was sent on 32 call-outs in 2008, rescuing a total of 31 people.
This is an increase of ten launches over 2006 and four launches more than in 2007. Ten of these incidents were as a result of machinery failure, predominately with leisure craft. The furthest launch was to a fishing vessel over 30 miles away from the station at Lough Swilly.
Last year, from May to August, the weather was just atrocious but we were busier than ever. We were involved in some some particularly dramatic resues, including children who were stranded at Stragill, a man on an air mattress who was swept out from Rathmullen and a boat that went aground with seven people on board.

RNLI volunteers and supporters helped celebrate the 20th birthday of RTE's Seascapes with two special editions of the show, broadcast over Christmas.
The programmes were recorded at RNLI Ireland headquarters in Swords, Co. Dublin. Presenter and journalist Tom MacSweeney (pictured with RNLI Deputy Chairman Terence Johnson) hosted a mix of songs and stories with an RNLI background.
Mark Barnett from Lough Swilly was there to represent the station..
